Assam Rifles recovered 5,760 kg areca nuts and poppy seeds in Champhai district

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 5,760 kg areca nuts and 40 bags of poppy seeds in general area Tlangsam, Champhai district on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 11 Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai based on specific information. The approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 22,46,400 and poppy seeds is Rs11,00,000. The Customs Department Champhai, seized the contraband items and detained two individuals on Tuesday for further legal proceedings, stated a press release.
