CHAMPHAI: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 250 gram of heroin No-4 from the general area of Ruantlang in Mizoram on August 13.

Acting on specific information, the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Assam Rifles and the Customs department of Champhai.

The approximate market vaklue of the recovered heroin No-4 is Rs. 1,00,00,000. The recovered items have been handed over to the Customs Department of Champhai for further legal proceedings.

The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. The Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a press release.
