Assam Rifles recovers heroin worth Rs 13 lakh in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 26 grams of Heroin No 4 worth Rs13,00,000 in General Area Zokhawthar - MelbukRoad- on July 8.

The operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles and Zokhawthar Police based on specific information.

The approximate cost of the recovered heroin No 4 is Rs13,00,000. As the Excise Department Serchhip, District Serchhip seized the contraband items and detained one individual on 9 July 2022 for further legal proceedings.

The ongoing smuggling of heroin is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, a press release said.
