AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 3,900 kg of poppy seeds worth Rs 10,25,700 in the Tyao Kawn area in the Champhai district of Mizoram on Friday. According to a press release, the operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 10 Assam Rifles and representatives of the Customs Department, Champhai, based on specific information.

The Customs Department Champhai, seized the contraband opium and detained two individuals for further legal proceedings.

Ongoing smuggling of poppy seeds is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of North-East' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
