AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), seized 40 cases of foreign origin cigarettes in general area Chhungte, Champhai district in Mizoram on Saturday.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs department Champhai based on specific information.
The approximate cost of the seized foreign origin cigarettes is Rs. 52,00,000. The recovered items were handed over to Customs Preventive Force Champhai, District Champhai. One individual was also detained for further legal proceedings
Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border, stated a press release.
