AIZAWL: The Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles recovered eight cases of foreign origin cigarettes worth Rs 10.40 lakh from the Balukai area of Zokhawthar in Mizoram on Wednesday. The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles based on specific information, stated a press release.
The Assam Rifles team recovered the items dumped between the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Bridge and Balukai. The seized cigarettes were handed over to the Customs Department, Champhai for legal proceedings.
AID DISTRIBUTED: Meanwhile, another press release informed that the Aizawl Battalion of Assam Rifles distributed essential commodities to needy people at Hnahlan village on Tuesday.
The social welfare drive was initiated with an aim to provide essential commodities, including ration, to the local people so as the help them flourish and grow at par with the rest of society.
