Assam Rifles seizes heroin, arms & ammo in Champhai district of Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 55 gm of heroin worth about Rs 27,50,000 from the New Champhai-Zotlang road in the Champhai district of Mizoram on Tuesday.

According to a press release, the operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific information.

The Assam Rifles troops seized the illegal consignment along with a Kenbo bike and apprehended two individuals who were handed over to the Champhai police for further legal proceedings.

In another incident, the Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered ammunition and weapons at Zawngling village of the Saiha district along Indo-Myanmar border on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out by team of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific information.

The Assam Rifles team along with police representatives established a check post on the Zawngling crossing and intercepted two individuals carrying a total of 20 rounds of 12 gauge 70mm cartridges along with two NX 100 airguns.

Two Myanmarese nationals were apprehended in the operation.

The recovered items and two individuals were handed over to the Tuipang Police Station for further legal proceedings.

LECTURE ORGANIZED: Meanwhile, the Lunglei Battalion conducted a lecture on Prevention from Water Borne Diseases at Parva-IV village on Wednesday.

A total of 32 local residents attended the same.

The aim of the lecture was to spread awareness amongst local people about the water borne diseases and illnesses caused by microscopic organisms, like bacteria that are ingested through contaminated water. During the lecture people were made aware about prevention from water borne diseases and how they can ensure water purity free from sand and silt. People were advised to drink only clean and safe water and to get water purifying devices like filters.

The locals of Parva-IV village were very happy and expressed their gratitude for the initiative taken by Assam Rifles.
