AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 58 gm of heroin worth about Rs 29 lakh from Zote near the river Tyao along the Indo-Myanmar border in the Champhai district of Mizoram on Saturday.

According to a press release, the operation was carried out by team of 8 Assam Rifles based on specific information.

The Assam Rifles troops seized the illegal consignment along with a Kenbo bike and registered a case under the NDPS Act for further legal proceedings.

Ongoing smuggling of heroin is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast', have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.

Meanwhile, the Serchhip Battalion also recovered a 12-bore single barrel gun from near the Border Pillar-24 on Saturday.

Based on reliable information about suspected transshipment of weapons by Myanmarese nationals, a special operation was launched by troops of the Serchhip Battalion which led to the apprehension of two Myanmarese nationals along with the dismantled 12-bore gun and one Kenbo bike. The individuals were trying to transship the weapon illegally to Myanmar.

The Assam Rifles troops handed over the apprehended Myanmarese nationals along with weapon and vehicle to the Sangau Police Station in the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram.
