Assam Rifles seizes Myanmarese currency in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 1 crore Myanmar currency (kyat) equivalent to Rs 4.2 lakh in the general area of Khaikhy in the Saiha district of Mizoram recently, stated a press release.

The operation was carried out by a team of 3 Assam Rifles based on specific information.

The Excise and Narcotics Department of Saiha seized the contraband items and detained one individual for further legal proceedings. Ongoing smuggling of foreign currency is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of North-East' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.

INTERACTION: According to another press release, the Lunglei Battalion of Headquarter23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarter Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), organized a meeting-cum-interaction with VCPs of Lungpuk village recently.

The aim of the interaction was to spread awareness amongst the local youth of Lungpuk village regarding employment opportunities provided by various Government agencies and skill development schemes in order to improve the lifestyle of people living in remote areas of Lawngtlai district.

Lunglei Battalion remains committed towards providing opportunities to local youth keeping in line with its efforts towards 'Fight against Drugs'. Efforts of Lunglei Battalion of Assam Rifles for uplift and betterment of the local population were well appreciated by the youth organizations.
