GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough for the resolution of ongoing conflict between Assam and Mizoram border, the Chief Minister's Office in Mizoram today tweeted, "Govt. of Assam & Govt. of Mizoram successfully signed a Joint Statement today after deliberations at Aizawl. Both governments agree to take forward Ministry of Home Affairs' initiatives to remove prevailing tensions and to find lasting solutions through discussions."
It may be mentioned that two high-ranking ministers from the Assam cabinet, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal will reach Mizoram's capital city Aizawl today to initiate the talks.
On the other hand, Assam Minister Ashok Singhal took to his Twitter handle and wrote, "After a meeting with the officials of Govt of Assam & Mizoram, a joint statement is signed by Hon'ble Minister, Assam,@ATULBORA2 Ji, Hon'ble Home Minister, Mizoram,@Lalchamliana12, Comm. & Secy, Border Protection, Assam Sri GD Tripathi & Home Secy, Mizoram Sri Vanlalngathsaka."
Notably, following the bloody clash at the Assam-Mizoram border at Cachar's Lailapur where six Assam police personnel lost their lives and over 45 injured in the exchange of fire with the Mizoram Police, Assam and Mizoram have finally decided to initiate on-ground peace negotiation talks for the first time today since the incident occurred last week.
