Doctor arrested in Mizoram for allegedly trying to molest and murder a woman

AIZAWL: A 29-year-old doctor has been arrested by the police for allegedly trying to molest and murder a woman in the northeastern part of Mizoram, near Sakravadai village, about 161 km from Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram.

The accused identified as JH Vanlalnunmawia is a native of Ramhlun North in Aizwal. He is currently working as a doctor in Sakawrdai Village.

The incident took place when the woman, who works as an NGO educator, was moving from a neighboring village to her native village of Sakawrdai in the doctor's car. The incident came to light after the victim's family filed a criminal case at Sakawrdai Police Station.

The officer in-charge of the PS said that allegations of molestation, attempt to murder, and driving under the influence of alcohol have been levelled against the doctor. The complainant, in her 20s, also claimed that she has been raped and was threatened that she would be killed if she told anyone or did not do as said by the accused, said the police.

The accused was arrested brought before the magistrate in Aizwal. (Agencies)
