AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Assam Rifles personnel seized 134 cases of foreign-origin cigarettes at Hrikawn in Mizoram on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs department Champhai based on specific information. The approximate cost of the seized foreign origin cigarettes is Rs 2,01,00,000. The consignment was handed over to Customs Preventive Force Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
