AIZAW: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 110 gm of heroin worth Rs 55 lakh in the Runatlang area of the Champhai district on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles and the Champhai police based on specific information.
The team seized the illegal consignment and handed it over to the Champhai police on Thursday along with two apprehended individuals for further legal proceedings.
In another development, in a major successful operation against anti-national activities, the Serchhip Battalion recovered some war-like stores on Wednesday. The operation was carried out near Hnahlan- Ngur Junction of the Champhai district based on specific information.
The team located the suspected Tata Sumo vehicle (MZ01N 3932) carrying passengers on the Hnahlan- Ngur road. The vehicle was intercepted and spot checking was carried out.
During checking it was found that one of the passengers was illegally carrying explosive items (WLS) which included gelatin sticks, detonators, cordtex and safety fuse concealed in a blue bag.
The recovered items included 13 detonators, 20 metre of cordtex, 10 metre of safety fuse and17 gelatin sticks.
Such war like stores could have endangered the lives of innocent people and led to various illegal activities. This recovery has prevented the loss of precious lives. Meanwhile, the Serchip Battalion also recovered Foreign Origin Cigarettes worth Rs 1.04 lakh from the Zokhawthar crossing point along the Indo-Myanmar border of the Champhai district on Wednesday.
According to a press release, the operation was carried out by a team of 8 Assam Rifles based on specific information.
The seized cigarettes have been handed over to the Customs Department at Champhai for further legal proceedings.
Ongoing smuggling of Foreign Origin Cigarettes is a major cause of concern for the State of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram.
SNAKEBITE AWARENESS: Meanwhile, according to another press release, the Lunglei Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), conducted a lecture on 'Snakebite Awareness' at Lungzarthum village on Wednesday.
A total of 18 villagers attended the lecture, the aim of which was to sensitize the local populace about the threat posed by poisonous snakes and other reptiles. The team emphasized upon the surge of fatal casualties caused by snakebite especially during the monsoon season. The local people were educated to identify the poisonous species of reptiles inhabiting the area and ways to prevent snakes from entering houses. The villagers were happy and expressed their gratitude for imparting them with the basic knowledge of prevention and first aid in snakebite cases.
