Aizawl: The Border Security Force (BSF) in its biggest seizures of illegal weapons in the region, has recovered 30 sophisticated weapons and almost 8,000 assorted ammunitions from the Tripura-Mizoram international border with Bangladesh on Monday.
Three persons, identified as Lalhuapzauva (56), Vanlalruata (25), and Liansanga (46) - all residents of Mizoram's capital Aizawl - have been arrested in connection with the same.
According to a statement released by BSF on Tuesday, the three men are suspected to be part of an international arms smuggling racket.
The BSF acted on specific input from the Intelligence Branch about the transportation of a huge consignment of weapons to the border area. A special operation was launched on the outskirts of Phuldungsei village in Mizoram's Mamit district on Monday night. The BSF jawans laid a trap and intercepted two vehicles bearing number plates of Mizoram.
On searching the vehicles, 30 sophisticated arms including 28 AK-series Rifles, a 5.56 MM AK-74 Rifle, and one Carbine, along with over 7000 assorted ammunition, an amount of Rs. 39,020 and several other articles were also recovered, said the statement.
