AIZAWL: Mizoram Police captured a huge amount of a prohibited narcotic substance on Wednesday and apprehended two people in connection with the same incident.

A report from the Mizoram Police mentioned that they had received inputs about the presence of the narcotic substances. Based on the information available in hand, a special team conducted an operation in the Lunglei district of the state.

A unit from the Lunglei District Special Branch conducted this operation on Wednesday in the region between the Tlawng bridge and Pukpui. The team recovered a consignment containing a total of 1.747 kilos of contraband heroin in the operation. The value of the seized drugs is said to be around Rs 8.735 Crs in the international market.

Two suspects were also apprehended by the team from Mizoram Police in connection to this incident. They have been identified as Khupkhankual and Haudeihchin. Both are 25 years old and belong to the Vengthar Tlangnuam region of the Champhai district. Along with the two arrested on suspicion of peddling drugs, a juvenile was also apprehended and his identity was not revealed

As per reports, the police have already registered a case regarding this matter. While the two 25-year-olds have been booked under the Sections 21 (C) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985, the child has been reported under the Section 78 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015. Further investigation is going on as per procedure to find more people linked with the narcotics distribution across the state.

The flow of different narcotic substances through the Northeastern part of the country has been a major source of concern both in terms of health as well as security and safety. This has led the state governments to take sizable steps to stop the distribution as well as consumption of such substances.
