Illegal areca nuts and foreign-origin beers worth Rs 57.8 lakh seized

MIZORAM: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered illegal areca nuts worth Rs 56 lakh in 100 bags (approximate weight 8000 kg) at general area crossing point Ngur and 50 cases of foreign-origin beers worth Rs 1.8 lakh at general area crossing point Zote on Saturday.

Based on specific information, a combined team of Assam Rifles and Custom Department Champhai carried out the operation. The seized consignment was handed over to the Customs Department in Champhai on Saturday for further legal proceedings, stated a press release.
