MIZORAM: The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 200 cases of illegal foreign-origin cigarettes worth Rs 3 crore, being carried in two TATA Yodha trucks, in the general area of Ruantlang, which were intercepted during a deliberate check carried out by the MVCP of Assam Rifles and Customs Department Champhai on Thursday.
The operation was carried out by a combined team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai, based on specific information about the smuggling of a huge quantity of foreign cigarettes. The seized consignment was handed over to the Customs Department in Champhai on Thursday for further legal proceedings, stated a press release.
