Aizawl: A man hailing from Mizoram, who allegedly threatened to assassinate the Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga if he refused to step down within three months, had been arrested on March 13.

The accused has been identified as Rodinliana aka Apuia Tocchhawng and he is 37-years-old. The accused hails from Khawzawl town and is currently a resident of Chanmari West locality in Aizawl.

He has accused Zoramthanga of usurping the state's annual budget for personal gains via a social media post which he shared on various Facebook groups in a bid to garner support.

He also confessed to have hired a sniper to take out the Chief Minister.

The fake account which went by the name 'Thingtlang Pa' was thoroughly investigated by the police, after which they traced the accused and arrested him.

However, this is not the first time that Apuia Tocchhawng has landed in trouble. He was arrested earlier in 2018 for threatening the former chief minister Lal Thanhawla by writing a letter to him.

John Neihlaia, the Mizoram Inspector General of Police, has said that no weapon was found from his possession and added that the accused has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Meanwhile, Zoramthanga presented the annual budget of the state for the financial year 2022-2023 last month, with a total outlay of Rs 14,008.15 crore, which is Rs 2859.26 crore higher than the budget estimate of 2021-2022.

The chief minister also presented supplementary demands for grants for the financial year 2021-2022 amounting to Rs 6025.44 crore.

With the government planning to implement the state flagship programme – socio-economic development policy (SEDP) emphasis is laid on the flagship programme by raising the fund allocation by 75 per cent.

There is no proposal for levying new taxes or enhancing tax rates in the new budget.
