Military Nursing Service exam attendees flag-off ceremony & tree-plantation drive held at Aizawl

AIZAWL: Aiming to engage the youths of Mizoram in various sectors and to shape the future prospects of the young girls of the State, the Aizawl Battalion of Headquarter 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles(East) initiated the first of its kind 'Military Nursing Service' a pre-guidance capsule for young girls of the Mizoram on February 23 , 2021.

The pre-guidance capsule was scheduled for six weeks from February 23 to April 10, 2021. During the capsule, 60 girl candidates selected during the post-screening phase from the State were imparted training for clearing the Military Nursing Service Examination of the Indian Army.

The MNS (Military Nursing Service) is an auxiliary force of the Indian Armed Forces where only the women officers serve as nurses in uniform with the status of a commissioned officer.

To further facilitate, motivate and encourage young girls appearing for the competitive examination, the Assam Rifles have arranged for the food, transportation and accommodation of the aspiring girls from Aizawl to Guwahati (Examination Centre ) and back.

This is for the first time that such an initiative has been undertaken in the North by the Assam Rifles.

On Sunday, the flag-off ceremony was organized at the Assam Rifles Headquarters to mark the movement of the selected girls from Aizawl to Guwahati for their scheduled examination. Health Minister of Mizoram Dr R Lalthangliana graced the event as the chief guest and flagged off the girls for their further move to Guwahati.

During the event, the Commandant of Aizawl Battalion, Assam Rifles, Colonel Rajesh Kumar Nayak also motivated the young girls appearing for the examinartion and wished them luck and success.

The efforts of Assam Rifles (Sentinels of North East) to divert the youths of State into productive activities so as to wean them from falling prey to drug addictions were lauded and appreciated by the Minister, NGOs (non-government organisations) and the local population. The event was also attended by the Secretary to Health minister, Joint Director (Nursing) & Director, Health Department.

Post the flagging-off programme, the Health Minister also participated in the tree plantation drive in which he along with the troops of Assam Rifles planted saplings, stated a press release.
