Mizo National Front misusing funds by distributing projects to its favoured party workers: Congress

Aizawl: The Congress party during a press briefing on Monday accused the Mizo National Front (MNF) of misusing MNF funds by distributing projects to the favoured party workers.

According to the statement made by the Congress Party spokesperson, Lallianchhunga claimed that in the first Board of Councilor meeting held under the MNF led AMC (Aizawl Municipal Corporation), it was allegedly decided that only projects worth 25 lakhs and above will be tendered.

As per a report, in compliance with the decision, the AMC MNF councillor did not prepare tenders for projects with estimates below Rs 25 lakhs and distributed such projects to their favoured party workers, said the spokesman.

Reportedly, in the past three years at least 4000 projects have been distributed without tender, Lallianchhunga claimed further.

The Congress spokesperson also accused the AMC of corrupting the Market cum Parking project which was to be set up in Tuikual South. While the estimate was around Rs. 494.12 lakhs, the MNF councillors from AMC had allegedly asked the contractor to demand a 10% advance (50 lakhs). Such an incident has led to a halt of the project, Lallianchhunga said.

It is very unfortunate that MNF has misused the public's money. "Such incidents show that MNF is not worthy to preside over AMC or the state as a whole," added Lallianchhunga.
