AIZAWL: On April 1, development projects worth Rs 2,414 crore will be inaugurated and the foundation stone will be laid in Mizoram, an official announced on Wednesday.

On the first day of the following month, Amit Shah will visit the northeastern state and lay the cornerstone for six important projects totaling 2,414 crore.

Inauguration of the Assam Rifles Battallion Headquarters Complex at Zokhawsang, valued at 163 crore, and Building of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) under Smart City Limited (ASCL), valued at 119.2 crore, are two of these projects.

One of these six important projects is the Assam Rifles headquarters facility at Zokhawsang, which is located around 15 kilometres east of Aizawl. The 510 km of Mizoram's border with Myanmar has been patrolled by the Assam Rifles, who have two bases in Aizawl—Zodin and Khatla. It has been decided to relocate the battalion command from Zodin to Zokhawsang.

Since the early 1990s, the Mizo National Front has made a significant commitment to removing the Assam Rifles from the centre of Aizawl. Laldenga first argued for the transfer of the Assam Rifles in 1988, following a confrontation in which the central paramilitary force claimed seven civilian lives.

Additionally, the Home Minister will lay the cornerstone for the construction of the Zorinpui-Longmasu NH-502A, estimated to cost Rs 781.85 crore, the Aizawl Bypass (Package-1), estimated to cost Rs 329.70 crore; the Aizawl Bypass (Package-3), estimated to cost Rs 702.72 crore; and the Laldenga Centre, estimated to cost 193 billion.

The programme will be attended by several high-ranking officials from both the federal and state governments. The district administration has finished making arrangements for the Union Home Minister's arrival.

In a meeting with the Union Home Minister last week, the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, thanked him for keeping his pledge to officially open the Assam Rifles Battallion Complex in Zokhawsang and lay the cornerstone for the Laldenga Cultural Centre.
