AIZAWL: Assam Rifles busted yet another racket of smuggling and illegal trading of exotic animals in the state of Mizoram. Sercchip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the supervision of Inspector General of Assam Rifles (east), recovered and seized six Burmese Python snakes. 

The seizure was made in Mizoram’s Zokhawthar district on Thursday. Based on a prior secretive information, a team was formed by Assam Rifles which later initiated a search operation in the area. Furthermore, the AR team arrested four persons in connection with the illegal smuggling.

These individuals are sent for an interrogation process with the authorities in order to extract out more information about the matter. Nevertheless, the recovered exotic snakes are handed over to the Champhai Forest Department.

The trend of smuggling exotic animals and carrying out illegal activities in the state of Mizoram, has become a prime cause of concern for the state administration. This particular trend is mostly registered from the India-Myanmar border.

Assam Rifles informed that, a massive amount of areca nuts worth Rs 3.51 crore has been recovered and seized from Mizoram’s Indo-Myanmar border. The episode took place on Monday, in the Champhai district of the state. A search operation was launched in the Melbuk area along the international border.

Assam Rifles in association with the Custom officials initiated the operation based on a prior secretive information. As many as 780 bags of areca nuts were recovered from the area. Later, the seized items were transferred in the hands of custom officials for further investigation process on 13th of February, Monday.

The joint operations included Serchipp Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) and Custom department.
