Mizoram gets its first Solar Power Plant, enters the Solar Map of India

Aizwal: The Power Minister of Mizoram Pu R. Lalzirliana inaugurated the first solar power plant of Mizoram on Friday. The solar power plant is situated at Tlungvel in Mizoram. It is around 58 kilometres from the capital city of Mizoram, Aizwal. The peak generation capacity of the Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) Power Plant, which was inaugurated on December 4 is of 2 MW.

The state's first power plant is built at the cost of Rs 14 crore. Addressing on the occasion, the Power Minister said that with the execution of the 2 MWp SPV Solar Plant in the state, Mizoram has made its first-ever entry into the solar map of the country. It is really a proud moment for the state, said Lalzirliana. He further said that along with the use of solar energy, the state should utilise its hydroelectric potential to produce more power. This will further boost the vision of our Central government of self-sufficiency in power.

Er. Lalrinawma, the Deputy Speaker of Mizoram Legislative Assembly and MLA of the constituency also spoke a few words on the occasion. He praised the local community of the Tlungvel area for providing land for the solar power plant and facilitating its construction.

The solar power plant started its construction back in August 2018. The funds for the construction were fully provided by the Mizoram state government. The plant is spread over 5 acres of land. The SPV Power Plant as 5,340 Solar Modules. The solar power plant is expected to generate three million units annually. Another solar power plant of 20 MW is currently under construction at Vankal in Khawzawal district of southern Mizoram, said the officials of the state power department.
