MIZORAM: Following the week long standoff and tension between the two Northeastern states, Assam and Mizoram following the bloody fiasco at Cachar's Lailapur that resulted into a self-imposed 'economic blockade' by various trading organizations of Cachar, the Mizoram home secretary Vanlalngaihsaka has finally requested the commissioner and secretary to the home department of Assam to make urgently arrange for the stranded vehicles stranded in Assam to enter the state of Mizoram.
Mizoram home secretary Vanlalngaihsaka wrote to his Assam counterpart on Monday, requesting to take up the issue on an urgent note and facilitative the stranded trucks carrying essential goods and fuel to reach Mizoram safely. In the letter, he further assured the safety and wellbeing of the drivers, passengers and the vehicles in Mizoram plying from Assam.
Meanwhile, divulging the details of this letter, the department of information and public relations of Mizoram on Tuesday tweeted: "Home Secretary, Mizoram writes to his counterpart in Assam to make arrangements for stranded vehicles to enter Mizoram, giving assurance to safety of drivers, passengers and vehicles within Mizoram."
The letter from the Mizoram home secretary read, "The vehicles bound for Mizoram which have been stranded on NH-306 at Lailapur since 26.7.2021 want to enter Mizoram without delay."
"In this regard, kindly make all necessary arrangements immediately for enabling their entry into Mizoram without any law and order problem in Assam."
"The Government of Mizoram gives its assurance for the safety and security of all drivers, passengers and their vehicles within Mizoram," the letter further reads.
Meanwhile, some other developments pertaining to the interstate border conflict includes, Mizoram health minister Dr. R Lalthangliana writing to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union health minister Mansuk Mandavya in to intervene in this ongoing situation and lift the self imposed economic blockade in Assam in order to curb any sort of imminent health crisis within the state, which is already under the grip of COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, the letter by Lalthangliana had brought out allegations regarding consignments of medical supplies, including Covid19 test kits that are being prevented from entering the state due to the blockade in the Assam's Barak Valley region.
It may be mentioned that following high level talks between the centre and state governments under the watchful supervision of the centre, measure are being taken in order to de-escalate tensions along the Assam-Mizoram border.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday told that both the states will shortly sit for ministerial level discussions on the entire fiasco on August 5.
