Mizoram Police Awaits Polygraph Test Report Of Rape Victim's Parents

AIZAWL : Mizoram police is still waiting for the polygraph report of the prime accused couple, suspected in the rape case of their own daughter. C Lalruaia, the Superintendent of Police in Aizawl, stated that a lie-detector test was conducted against the couple last week.

The test was carried out by experts from Delhi forensic laboratory, since the Mizoram police did not have a polygraph. The police department was expecting the reports a little early but till now they have not received any information regarding the polygraph test.

The state Deputy Inspector General of Police, Lalbiakthanga Khiangte, informed that, this is the first time ever that a lie detector test has been initiated in a criminal case in Aizawl. Though several people were questioned by the police but the parents of the deceased was detained. The couple was arrested under IPC section 6 under the POSCO act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, 2012 along with IPC section, 376 AB. On 20th September, they were taken into custody at the All Women's Police Station in Aizawl.

The 2 year old girl hailed from western part of Aizawl, and died on 16th of September 2022 in an Aizawl private hospital. During the examination of the minor's body, it came to notice that the baby was sexually abused. Some unusual marks were noticed in the child's private parts which concerned the doctors about some sort of sexual harassment.

A government civil hospital then looked into the matter and reported that some 'healed scars' were present in her private areas. The child's parents were considered as the prime suspect as they were the ones always staying around her. Based on circumstantial evidences, the couple was taken into custody on 3rd October for an in-depth interrogation.

A well known social activist , Vanramchhaungi, lodged a complaint on 29th of September where he accused the child's parents as the key suspects. Along with that, after a couple of days the relatives of the girl also registered a complaint against the parents.
