Guwahati: Amid the challenge posited by the Covid-19 that has killed 8,000 people across the nation, Mizoram will be bolstered in its fight with the arrival of supplies worth Rs 60 lakh from Taiwan.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, who has been quite active on social media amid these trying and testing times, informed his followers on Friday that the Taiwan Government is donating Rs. 45 lakh worth of medical masks as a sign of solidarity as Mizoram battles the pandemic. At the same time, the Meiho University in the country is donating Rs 15 lakh worth of advanced RT-PCR test kits to bolster the Mizoram Government's testing capabilities. In his tweet, the Chief Minister informed that the shipment is being sent from Taipei to India tomorrow.
Mizoram today reported 2 more Covid-19 positive cases, sending the total number of cases spiking upwards to 104. A single patient has been cured or discharged after treatment. According to the Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Mizoram, 176 samples were tested on May 11, out of which 2 new cases (a male and a female) emerged. The youngsters who tested positive today are aged 23 and 22 and belong to the Aizawl and Siaha districts. Both new patients are returnees who had come back to the state after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
Meanwhile, Mizoram has announced a complete lockdown in the state that came into effect on June 9 to mitigate the spread of the pathogen. The move, that was announced after a consultative meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Zoramthanga, comes as other states opened malls, restaurants, and places of worship after two months as part of the Central Government's 'Unlock-1' guidelines, expected to return life to normal in a "phased" manner.
