AIZAWL: In a significant and successful operation, authorities in Mizoram uncovered a substantial cache of warlike stores in a joint effort by the 30th Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police. The operation, which took place on October 8th, was carried out following intelligence inputs regarding the movement of warlike materials towards Myanmar via the Lungbun crossing.

The operation centered around the Lungbun area in the Siaha district, responding to the imminent threat of warlike stores being smuggled across the border. During the operation, the joint team of security personnel encountered two unidentified individuals who were seen carrying suspicious articles.

As the authorities approached the individuals and requested them to halt, the miscreants dropped their bags and hastily fled the scene, making their way towards Myanmar by crossing the Kolodyne River. Despite their escape, the bags left behind by the individuals contained a significant haul of warlike materials.

The recovered items included 100 gelatine sticks, 100 detonators, 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 meters of wire (codex), and 10 battery cells. These items, intended for potentially destructive purposes, were seized by the joint team.

Regrettably, the police were unable to apprehend the fleeing miscreants, who managed to evade capture and cross into Myanmar. Nevertheless, the joint team swiftly acted to secure the recovered items and proceeded to the Siaha Police Station on the same day, where they formally documented the seizure.

In compliance with the law, the authorities registered a case under Section 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act and Section 5 of the ES Act against unknown individuals. This legal action sets the stage for further investigation into the origin, purpose, and individuals responsible for the warlike stores, as well as potential connections to illegal activities.

This operation highlights the vigilance and coordinated efforts of security forces in the region to intercept and prevent the illicit movement of dangerous materials. It underscores the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in border regions and the importance of maintaining strict security measures to safeguard peace and stability.
