Poppy seeds worth lakhs seized in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, a joint team of the Custom Department, Champhai and the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), recovered 350 bags of poppy seeds from the Vangchhiain area in Mizoram on March 13.
The operation was carried out based on specific information. The approximate market value of the recovered items is Rs 78,75,000. The Custom Department seized the contraband items, stated a release.
