Property Cards Distributed Among Villagers of Mizoram

AIZAWL: The land revenues and settlement minister of the state of Mizoram, Lakruatkima distributed the property cards to a total of 420 beneficiaries on Monday, making it the first among the Northeast Indian states to have property cards under the Government of India’s Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) Scheme.

Out of the 420 property cards handed over on Monday, 254 belong to the Tachhip village and 166 belong to the Phulpui villages in the Aizawl district of the state of Mizoram mentioned a statement released by the state information and public relations department of the state.

The land revenues and settlement minister mentioned that these property cards are similar to the Land Settlement Certificates issued in the rural areas to show the legal ownership of their residential areas. He also mentioned that the beneficiaries will also be able to use their residential properties as financial assents for taking loans as well as other financial benefits and compensations.

The Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) Scheme is a Central sector scheme under the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and was launched by the prime minister in the April of 2021. It is being implemented as a joint initiative between the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the revenue departments of the states and the Survey of India.

The key aim of this scheme is to provide legal ownership of residential properties in the rural regions of the country to the rural people so that they can use their properties for economic benefits. A total of 319 rural villages in the state of Mizoram will be covered under this project with the mapping of 171 villages being done using drones.
