'Run for India' programmes organized in West Garo Hills & Mizoram

AIZAWL: To commemorate the forthcoming 75th Independence Day christened as 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles -- under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) orgainsed a five-km run under the 'Run for India' programme at the Company Operating Base Farkawn on August 13.

The aim of this event is to sensitize the locals including children about importance of following a healthy lifestyle and to include physical activities in the day-to-day life. The event served as a viable platform to educate the locals about the upcoming 75th Independence Day.

The event was conducted observing CAB (COVID Appropriate Behaviour) considering the pandemic situation. Everyone expressed profound gratitude for undertaking such an initiative and appreciated the continuous efforts and commitments of the Assam Rifles in reaching out to the local populace.

The Lunglei Battalion of Assam Rifles also conducted the 'Run for India' programme under the 'Fit India Movement' in Lunglei, Lawngtlai and Saiha Districts of Mizoram.

A total of 385 Assam Rifles personnel participated in this event.

The aim is to encourage the people to take up fitness activities such as running and sports in their daily lives and get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress anxiety, and diseases.

It also gives a strong message to the troops and motivates them to be physical active and improve their health. The defence forces have inculcated physical fitness from the days of training.

A press release of the Assam Rifles said, ''Fitness is our integral part of life serving in defence forces. Living upto the adage of the dforce as 'Friends of the Hill People', such initiatives in the remotest of locations provide the guidance of life-changing measures to local populace and are always well appreciated by them.''
