Smuggled beer worth lakhs seized in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, a joint operation carried out by the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles -- under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General AssamRifles (East) -- and and Excise & Narcotics Department recovered 22 cases of foreign origin smuggled beer.

The consignment was recovered from the general area of Chhungte in Mizoram on April 9. The operation was carried out based on specific information. The approximate market value of the recovered consignment is estimated at Rs 1,05,600. The Excise & Narcotics Department seized the contraband item. They also detained an individual in this regard. The ongoing smuggling of drugs especially along the India-Myanmar Border is a major cause of concern for Mizoram, stated a release.
