Amit Shah Campaigns for BJP Candidates of Nagaland Election

KOHIMA: The Union Home Amit Shah reached the state of Nagaland on Monday to begin his round of campaigning in the poll-bound state. He addressed an election rally in the Mon district of the state on Monday.

Amit Shah is in the state as a part of his two-day trip to the region to campaign for the party candidates appearing for different constituencies of the state. The first one is for the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Mon Town constituency, Cheong Konyak.

"The NDPP-BJP coalition will form government in Nagaland after polls. We will solve all problems of the state," mentioned the Home Minister and added, "our aim is to make peace talks successful and solve Naga political problem quickly."

This rally holds great significance for both the Bharatiya Janata Party as well as the public of the state. An incident that took place in December of 2021 in the same Mon district had triggered great hate against both the central government and the armed forces. Multiple civilians, including several daily wage labourers, were shot dead by personnel of the Indian Armed forces and they were captured by locals while trying to frame the dead as militants. Although it was dismissed by the military courts as a case of mistaken identity, the incident triggered the locals to lose trust in the system and even the state government.

It was soon followed by the renewed demands for a separate constitution and flag for the state of Nagaland, repelling the much-disputed Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and even the demand for a separate state of Frontier Nagaland comprising multiple districts of the state, including Mon.

A talk between the Union Home Minister and the representatives of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation and the following visit of a group of high-level officials of the Government of Inda led to the calling off of their boycott call on the assembly elections. The national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Jagat Prakash Nadda, had mentioned that the Naga Political issues will be solved soon after they come to power.
