"Green Christmas" Campaign Launched By Government of Nagaland
KOHIMA: This year, the third iteration of the "Nagaland for Green Christmas" campaign has been launched by the Sustainable Development Goal Coordination Centre (SDGCC) of the Nagaland planning and coordination department.
The campaign's main goal is to get every state citizen involved in planning a sustainable and environmentally responsible Christmas. According to the department, its main goal is to coordinate the Christmas festival celebration with the dissemination of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN and to inspire local action throughout the state to make this Christmas and future holidays sustainable.
Nagaland has contributed to making the SDGs a reality for the state, the nation, and the globe at large.
The government claimed that while Christmas is the happiest season of the year, it is not the most environmentally friendly. In order to cut carbon emissions, it was said that "Nagaland for Green Christmas" is an initiative to continue the work toward a statewide sustainable and environmentally friendly Christmas.
"No matter how big or small, everything - from the type of décor we buy to the food we eat, may make a great effect," it said. Avoiding plastics, decorating eco-friendly Christmas trees, making your own decorations, switching to LED lights, giving reusable gifts, sending e-cards, shopping ethically, composting leftovers, spending time in nature, and other similar actions are some of the easy and efficient ways to have a greener Christmas.
The department advised thinking about the items we buy, how we use them, and how we dispose of them as well. "The key is to be mindful and incorporate small changes and considerations into our normal routine," the department said.
The SDGCC is also urging people in the state to post about their eco-friendly holiday experiences on social media using the hashtags #NagalandForSDGs and #NagalandForGreenChristmas and the handle @sdgccnagaland. To find out more, one can go to the SDGCC's social media accounts.
The Nagaland government has been mobilizing people, communities, departments, organizations, and agencies to take action for the SDGs while forming local coalitions among various communities and societies. The agency continued, "This is yet another endeavor toward reaching the SDG Vision 2030."
