Kohima: In a bid to promote sports activities in the state, the Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has inaugurated a six-storey office complex of Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA).
The six-storey building will host the 22 sports associations affiliated with the NOA. Besides, there will be a conference room, a library and a gym.
Speaking on the occasion, on Saturday, the Chief Minister said that despite financial constraints, the administration has managed to take up some sporting infrastructure.
''The government cannot afford to spend much on sports but we are investing because we have hope in our youth,'' Rio added.
The Chief Minister further called upon the youth to take the facility wisely and excel in various disciples of sport.
He further urged the 22 sports organisations affiliated with the NOA and urged them to holistically promote sports in their respective disciplines.
He also apprised that NOA was affiliated to Indian Olympic Association in 2002 and in its first appearance in the National Games in Guwahati, Nagaland won 11 medals.
Later, he also expressed hope that the newly inaugurated complex would motivate youth to engage in the field of sports with more commitment and seriousness and aim for national and international medals.
