KOHIMA: Pre-election violence has been reported from the Northeast Indian state of Nagaland. According to the local police an incident took place in the Noklak and Kiphire districts of Nagaland.
According to reports, the incident took place in the Thonoknyu constituency of the Noklak district when a fight broke out between the supporters of the National People’s Party and the Lok Janshakti Party late on Sunday afternoon. Four people reportedly sustained injuries as the supporters of both parties engaged in stone pelting at each other.
The incident led to the deployment of personnel belonging to the Nagaland Police, the Indian Reserve Battalion and the Border Security Force. They were able to bring the situation under control.
A separate incident took place near Thoktsur in the Kiphire district of the state on the same day. One person was injured and five vehicles were damaged when unidentified people pelted stones at the convoy of the state president of the National People’s Party. Andrew Ahoto Sema was returning from an election rally when this incident took place.
In yet another incident, unidentified miscreants fired blanks near the residence of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party candidate for the Dimapur II assembly constituency seat. The incident took place in the Indisen village of the Dimapur region on Saturday night.
A member of the Indisen Youth Organisation had claimed that some Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) members came in 6-7 vehicles and indulged in sloganeering and threw empty bottles at the NDDP candidate’s home, and fired six blank shots before leaving the place.
Upon receiving the complaints, the state police seized two vehicles belonging to the Lok Janshakti Party supporters and started an enquiry into the matter.
Election campaigning is going on at full speed in the state of Nagaland as multiple local and national political leaders are campaigning for their respective candidates.
