KOHIMA: A huge boulder that fell and crushed three cars on the Kohima-Dimapur National Highway during a landslide in the midst of intense rains left two persons dead and three more hurt. On Tuesday evening, around five o'clock, the tragedy occurred in the Chumoukedima area of Nagaland. A large rock striking two cars one after the other is captured in a viral video of the incident. Both cars were severely damaged and crumpled. Another boulder can be seen in the video smashing into a car in front of the other two vehicles. On its left, a truck was struck by the car.

The impacted cars were coming in Kohima. A car behind them had a dash camera that captured the collision. At the Referral Hospital in Dimapur, the injured are being treated. One person passed away immediately, and the other passed away from their injuries while being treated at the hospital. On the other hand, recently, a portion of a critical road in Chamoli was destroyed by a landslide brought on by heavy rain, leaving 25 to 28 Kedarnath pilgrims from Nalbari in Assam stranded.

According to reports, near Chhinka in the Chamoli district, a portion of National Highway 7, which leads to Badrinath, is blocked by debris.

For parts of Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an amber rain warning. Three days prior to this catastrophe, 200 persons, the majority of them tourists, were stranded and faced a 15-kilometer traffic jam after a flash flood and landslides shut down the national highway between Mandi and Kullu in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh region.

The Northeastern region is prone to landslides. At Sonapur in Meghalaya, one of the important landslide locations, there have been significant landslides. Following the channel of a perennial stream that descends on the left bank of the Lubha River, the landslip zone is situated on National Highway 6 in the Jaintia Hills area of the state, 141.8 kilometres from Shillong.
