Nagaland Agrees To Extend Superannuation Age For Doctors With Condition

Kohima: The Nagaland government on Thursday agreed to extend the superannuation age following the protest by doctors in the state.

The doctors were protesting in different parts of the state demanding the government increase the retirement age from 60 years to 62 years.

''After studying the matter carefully, the cabinet has decided to extend services to 62 years with a condition that they will be re-employed in the clinical sector,'' government shopkeepers on Mmhonlumo Kikon told media persons after the cabinet meeting.

The doctors will hold no administrative posts, but they will be allowed to work in the hospitals as re-employed doctors.

A few days back, the Nagaland In-Service Doctors Association (NIDA) had called its members to proceed on mass casual leaves starting from 18 to 20 April which would support its demand for an increase in retirement age.

The Nagaland Chief Secretary J Alam had stated that the state government was aware of the several media reports regarding the protest by doctors and NIDA calling its members for casual leaves.

However, the protest was withheld in view of the cabinet meeting.
