Nagaland: Another Accident on the Mariyani-Mokokchung Road

MARIYANI: Yet another accident has taken place on the important road that connects the town of Mariyani in Assam to the town of Mokokchung in Nagaland on Wednesday night. The incident led to the severe injury of two people.

According to local sources, an accident took place near the Sutafala Checkgate in Nagaland. A commercial vehicle skid off the road and became a victim of an approximately 200-foot drop. The Mahindra Bolero Pickup vehicle bearing registration number AS 03 BC 8068 fall into the deep gorge.

The vehicle was carrying items from Assam to Nagaland when this accident took place. Both the driver and the helper were severely injured because of the fall.

Previously also an accident took place on the highway connecting Wokha to Kohima leading to the death of several people. According to local sources, the accident happened at around 6:30 AM in the morning at the Tseminyu district of the state of Nagaland. A passenger carrying a Tata Sumo vehicle on its way from Mokokchung and going towards Kohima collided with a dumper carrying sand. As a result, both vehicles went off the cliff into a 100-150 feet deep gorge.

Seven out of the eight people in the Tata Sumo vehicle perished in the incident while the last person was rescued and admited to a medical facility in a very critical condition. It was mentioned that the dumper loaded with sand fell on top of the Tata Sumo, so the passengers were crushed to death.

The key reason for the occurrence of multiple accidents on these roads is their pathetic conditions. Travellers on these roads, especially the drivers of the commercial vehicles plying regularly on this road have raised their concerns several times with the authorities, but no action has been taken yet.
