Nagaland: Anti-drug drive week observed in Kohima, police cracks down on the trafficking of pharma drugs

Dimapur: The Kohima Police, Nagaland observed the 'Anti-drug drive week' in Kohima on Thursday. They observed the 'Anti-drug drive week' by cracking down on pharma drug trafficking. A joint exercise was conducted by the Kohima Police with help from the drug inspector of Kohima. They conducted the joint exercise in Kohima town in Nagaland, and check a few pharmacies during the process.

According to a police officer from Kohima police, a few pharmacies have the license to sell codeine-containing drugs up to 50 bottles per month. However, if anyone sells beyond this permissible limit, the selling of these drugs become illegal.

On Thursday, during the joint exercise, the team of police along with the drug inspector seized those drugs from the pharmacies that were selling codeiine containing drugs beyond their permissible limits. The drug inspector and his department are yet to take any action on the defaulters. The team of officers are also actively checking the vehicles moving across the state as well as districts to detect trafficking of drugs. However, they have not been able to make any such recoveries till today.

The 'Anti-drug drive week' will be observed till December 22. Another activity of this drive is poster campaigns. These are used to spread awareness among the citizens of the state regarding the abuse of drugs.

The police official further said that the main reason behind conducting this drive is to aware people about the evils of drugs.

Earlier in October, three of the districts from Nagaland were selected for Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) campaign. Dimapur, Kohima, and Mon districts were chosen for NMBA. A total of 272 districts in India were selected for this campaign. The NMBA Annual Action Plan of 2020-21 focused on the 272 most-affected districts of India. The activities under this campaign will be undertaken till March 2021.
