KOHIMA: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, conducted a State-level meeting with political parties from Nagaland with regard to Electors Verification Program (EVP) and Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls at Hotel Japfu, here on Wednesday. The main objectives of the EVP are to verify elector’s details and indicate correction in details, to obtain details of family members and verifying their entries, to provide better Electoral Services and to improve health of electoral Roll.
Nagaland CEO Abhijit Sinha discussed at length with the members and officials of various political parties from Nagaland on the electoral roll and how its implementation can be improved through EVP. The political parties also brought to the notice of the CEO numerous burning issues related to the electoral rolls and the misuse of it during elections. Representative of the political parties further acknowledged the initiative of the Election Commission of India in making the electoral process more accessible to the public and hoped that the EVP would help in rooting out the problem of malpractices during elections.
Meetings were held by the Kohima Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Election Officer (DEO) Gregory Thejawelie and also by Mon DC and DEO Thavaseelan K on Tuesday. Both the meetings dwelt with the EVP as part of the pre-revision exercise, stated a release.
