World Red Cross Day celebrated

KOHIMA: The Indian Red Cross Society, Nagaland (IRCSN) State branch, celebrated World Red Cross Day on Wednesday at the Conference Hall, Red Cross Complex, Kohima, under the theme "What You Love About Red Cross". In his welcome address, General Secretary, IRCSN, Kepelhusie Terhüja, mentioned that there are about 97 million Red Cross staff all over the world and India has 700 branches. "The IRCSN is 33 years old and takes active part in aiding people during disasters. There is a need to change the behaviour and culture of violence to non-violence in the State," he said. "India will be celebrating 100 years of being a part of Red Cross (RC). Therefore the Indian Red Cross must sign the two Geneva Protocols that has not been signed by the nation to mark the 100 years of RC service in India," he said. The programme was chaired by Abeni TCK, Chairperson, IRCSN and vote of thanks was delivered by Helena Yepthomi, Member, Managing Committee, IRCSN, stated a DIPR release.

Felicitation programme

KOHIMA: Under the theme "Be Focused, Be Bold and Dream Big", a felicitation programme for Naga Adolescent Girl Club (NAGC) was held on Wednesday at Christ King Higher Secondary School, Kohima. The event was organised by State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW). In her address, Chairperson, NSSWB, Bano Vinito, congratulated the students and teachers for their achievement. She said education is not just about textbooks but it's beyond, one needs to have a big mind and to carry – 'I can do it' attitude to achieve success in life. She also encouraged the students to continue to work hard, not to be distracted by the worldly things and to be focused in their studies. Altogether 7 schools attended the felicitation programme, stated a DIPR release.

Kiphire DPDB held

KOHIMA: The Kiphire District Planning & Development Board meeting was held at the DPDB hall at Kiphire on Wednesday. ADC Reny Wilfred welcomed all the district officers. Discussing the agenda regarding the achievement of the complete plastic free district, the ADC urged all the district officers to put up water purifier system in their respective offices to avoid using plastic water bottles. SDO (C) HQ, Nyempo Wallim shared in brief about the use of plastic and its problem. He also encouraged the officers to make places for storing plastic wastes in the offices and also appealed to the school authority to give plastic free message during the chapel hours in the schools.

Attendance notice

KOHIMA: Attendance of all the Government employees under Zunheboto district will be strictly checked and absentees will be penalised accordingly, said Khehovi Yepthomi, Advisor, Tourism and Art and Culture and Chairman of Zunheboto District Planning and Development Board at the monthly DPDB meeting which was held on Wednesday at Zunheboto. He also directed the outpost ADCs to constantly check attendance of the employees under their jurisdiction. Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, Shanavas C, said, "From now on, DPDB attendance will be strictly maintained and all outpost officers are to attend the next DPDB meeting positively." The Chairman also gave away prizes to the winners of the painting competition conducted in commemoration of World Water Day on March 23, stated a DIPR release.

BADP meeting

KOHIMA: The Image Committee on BADP (Border Area Development Programme) held a meeting at Noklak on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Noklak ADC Neilezo Tep. The meeting discussed various developmental challenge faced by the village under the 0 to 10-km belt of the border area. The house decided to find out the actual status on the level of the development and to identify the critical gaps for special attention. All concerned departments were asked to submit their activity reports by May 20, states a DIPR release.
