Nagaland Governor P.B Acharya Attends Annual General Meeting of NEZCC

Guwahati: Governor of Nagaland and chairman North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) P.B Acharya addressed the annual executive and governing body meeting of NEZCC at Shilpgram, Guwahati on December 17.

According to a release issued DIPR, addressing the gathering Acharya said that at present there were seven zonal cultural centers across the country to promote, pursue and preserve India’s cultural heritage. On the other hand, at present 12,000 performance teams from different states of NE are registered with NEZCC, he said. Governor also said that 100 gurus, 100 assistants and 400 sishyas (students) forming a guru-sishya team, have been identified for training with financial assistance from NEZCC. He also reiterated that NEZCC artistes ought to be invited by different NGOs and other states and countries not only to showcase the NE’s cultural heritage but also to introduce them to local families and provide “homestay”.

Governor also stressed that the ultimate goal of the zonal cultural centers was to strengthen equity and integrity. He said, “Alag Bhasha Alag Vesh, Phir Bhi Apna Ek Desh” should be the basic ideology of all the cultural groups and NEZCC.

NEZCC director Jitul Sonowal invited prof SP Singh, vice chancellor of Royal Global University (RGU), Guwahati and MBA students to present a preliminary report on the revival and more vibrancy of Shilpgram, Guwahati.

Prof Singh spoke on how RGU would assist the NEZCC in reviving the cultural center, Shilpgram, and its footfall. Those present at the meeting were prof Laltluangliana Khinagte, Mizoram; M Lakshmikumar Singh, commissioner, Art & Culture, Manipur; YW Ringo, secretary, Cultural Affairs, Arunachal Pradesh; Madhurima Sen, secretary, Cultural Affairs, Assam; Ahola Those, secretary, Art & Culture, Nagaland, other members from the North East and internal auditors of NEZCC from Mumbai.
