Nagaland Govt Creates 3 More Districts: Niuland, Tseminyu and Chumukedima

Nagaland government on Saturday 18 December announced the formation of three new districts in leading to a total of 15 districts. Niuland, Tseminyu and Chumukedima are added as three new districts of Nagaland.

DIMAPUR: Nagaland government added three more districts in its total number of districts in the state. Now there are 15 districts in the northeastern state of Nagaland s declared by the state cabinet on Saturday 18 December.

The major announcement regarding the formation of new and fresh districts was made by the State cabinet on Saturday in Kohima.

The newly formed districts of Nagaland are Niuland, Tseminyu and Chumukedima. Tseminyu district was created by bifurcating Kohima while Tseminyu and Chumukedima were carved out of the district of Dimapur.

Tseminyu is now regarded as the 13th district of Nagaland, Niuland is regarded as the 14th district of the state and Chumukedima is at present the 15th district of Nagaland.

Jacob Zhimomi, a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) expressed his happiness over the decision by the Nagaland government mainly with the formation of two of the districts which were under his constituency i.e. Chumukedima and Nuiland. The Minister regarded the step as the best Christmas gift ever.

He wrote in this Twitter account that he is much delighted and thankful to the state cabinet and Chief Minister of the state Neiphiu Rio who came up with this initiative of adding Chumukedima and Nuiland as the new districts of Nagaland.

R Khing who represents the Tseminyu constituency in the Nagaland Assembly also took to Twitter to express his happiness in the formation of new districts.

R Khing, adviser to animal husbandry and veterinary services wrote on Twitter that 18 December 2021 is the historic day that made Tseminyu the 13th district of the state. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Cabinet members and Nagaland CM on behalf of the Rangma Naga (a tribe of Nagaland).

Earlier the state had a total of 12 districts namely Kohima, Dimapur, Mon, Kiphire, Noklak, Tuensang Wokha, Phek, Zunheboto, Mokochung and Longleng.

The youngest and oldest district among all is the Noklak district which was formerly the sub-division of Tuensang district. The NPF (Naga People's Front) government headed by former Chief Minister of the state TR Zeliang formed the Noklak district on 21 December in the year 2017.
