KOHIMA: Five persons were apprehended and a large shipment of heroin was recovered by the Nagaland Police's narcotics unit on Friday, according to officials.

On the basis of precise intelligence about a potential drug smuggling attempt, a police unit reportedly carried out the anti-narcotics operation at Teipuki hamlet in the Peren district of Nagaland.

According to officials, the total amount of heroin seized weighed in at about 1.40 kg. They calculated that the confiscation would be worth Rs 2 crore on the world markets.

In the meantime, five people were detained by the police on smuggling charges in connection with the bust. They will be interrogated, and other legal actions will be taken.

Yesterday, Assam Rifles troopers raided the Aizawl district of Mizoram and found a sizable shipment of heroin worth over Rs 2 crores.

Assam Rifles, Excise, and Narcotics Department jointly launched an operation in Aizawl in response to specific information, and 40 soap cases carrying heroin were found on Lunglei Road.

The heroin that was found is claimed to have a market value of Rs 2,51,50,000. Three people were reportedly detained in connection with the seizure.

Later, the Excise and Narcotics Department received the confiscated cargo and the detained people for further legal action.

Recently, authorities in Mizoram seized a sizable shipment of illegal heroin valued at over Rs 5 crore.

A truck that was stopped for a normal inspection contained the heroin that was found inside. According to the authorities, it was placed into 89 soap boxes, and the entire shipment weighed an astounding 1,151 kg.

Two people were detained after a drone was discovered at the Indo-Pak border in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, yesterday at midnight. While 3 other people were able to elude capture, BSF managed to seize about 6.150 kg of heroin.

According to Satnam Singh, Additional SP Sri Ganganagar, there have been more than a dozen attempts from the Pakistani side in the past month.
