Kohima: The Naga Hoho, an apex tribal body of Nagaland condemned the recent statement made by Nagaland Governor RN Ravi, which glorifies the controversial Naga Peoples' Convention (NPC) as well as the creation of the state of Nagaland. The tribal body called the comment of the governor as "abusive statement."
RN Ravi made these remarks while giving his speech on the eve of 58th Nagaland Statehood Day.
The Naga Hoho said in their official statement, " We had the notion that Ravi was unlike other interlocutors in the past and had great hope that during his tenure something could be worked out and he had wisely understood the Naga political problem and its history of more than seventy years. We never expected such antagonistic statement from a brilliant, intelligent and self respecting Interlocutor who is supposed to be a harbinger of peace."
They have also alleged that the Governor's actions are aimed to create division between the Nagas in connection with the regional and artificial territory.
Naga Hoho also said that no Governor in the past has brought back the 16 point agreement on which Nagaland was formed. However, they asked in their communique on what made Ravi take interest in an issue after 57 years of statehood.
A separate constitution and flag have been demanded by the Isak-Muivah led National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN – IM). The tribal body also backed their demand.
It said that the country's Constitution and National Flag are the pride of the people of India. However, the Nagas do have their own flag and constitution. "Who is talking contrary and peddling preposterous lies? Are you not the one who misinterpreted the Framework Agreement?," added the Naga Hoho.
They further said that this issue will continue to exist, until and unless an amicable solution is reached.
