An order for revised rates for the sale of beef and pork with immediate effect has been issued by the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), amid skyrocketing price of meat in Kohima since the nationwide lockdown. The order issued by KMC will be implemented immediately until further notice.

KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase, has issued an order stating that the price of the pork will be at Rs.250 per kilogram and beef at Rs.240 per kilogram.

The order also stated that no butcher shop is allowed to sell pork beyond the rate fixed by the KMC in its jurisdiction. Further, no separate rates will be allowed for local and non-local pork, dressed, or undress categories. The order added that strict actions will be taken against the violators and remedial measures will be announced in case of any rate fluctuation.

The order directed all meat shops to move towards colonies as they will not be permitted in the national and district highways.

The KMC shared their contact numbers – 9436203061 or 977644639 for further grievances and complaints.

It is to be mentioned that, Kohima is still facing a huge shortage of beef and pork even after the relaxation of lockdown in the State. Although beef is currently available in wet market, there is still a scarcity of pork and mostly made available online for as high as Rs.350 or Rs. 330 per kg or Rs.1000 for 3 kg excluding the delivery charges.
