KOHIMA: Tuesday's massive fire catastrophe in Nagaland's Mon district's Aboi Town was prevented by the Assam Rifles' Mokokchung Battalion.

At around 1.20 pm, sources said, a fire started in two adjacent houses in the Hunyan Ward of Aboi Town due to a short circuit. They added that the blaze quickly spread to a house made of wood and tin sheets.

Armed with firefighting supplies, water cannons, and emergency medical equipment, soldiers from the Assam Rifles' operating base, Aboi Company, arrived on the scene as soon as they learned of the fire.

With the use of fire extinguishers and a water bowser, the relief team extinguished the fire and successfully evacuated persons and supplies from the scene.

A house was burned down in the incident, despite the fact that no injuries were reported.

Another similar event occurred on the evening of December 21, Wednesday, in the Marwari Patti area of the Jorhat district of Assam.

The enormous fire burned throughout the night and wasn't totally put out until early on December 23, Thursday. The numerous cooking gas cylinders in the area made the already-raging inferno worse.

As of now, the fire's origin is unknown. Emergency vehicles from the Indian Air Force engaged in the damage control efforts in addition to the state's fire and emergency services from a number of places in the Jorhat region.

The fire reportedly started in one of the several commercial buildings in the area and quickly spread to surrounding stores. Inflammable items including plastic products and LPG cylinders were commonly stored in the godowns of many of these enterprises. These items turned out to be obstacles in the firefighters' path.

There were more losses from the fire because several of these companies also served as the owners' homes. Numerous structures in the area have been entirely destroyed. The fire appears to have entirely destroyed more than 50 stores and commercial buildings, according to reports.
