Kohima: Three persons have been apprehended by the Nagaland Police for allegedly torturing and killing a rare Hornbill bird in the state.

As per reports, these persons were nabbed on the basis of a video that has gone viral on the social media platforms, wherein, it can be seen that a bird is being tortured in Nagaland's Wokha district.

However, the identity of the arrested persons has not been revealed by the police.

Social media users have expressed their concern and demanded appropriate action to protect and conserve endangered wildlife.

The Great Hornbill, is a bird species listed as "Vulnerable" in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) "Red List of Threatened Species."

As per reports, the Green Succession of Nagaland State (Green SONS) has appreciated the Wildlife and the Police Departments for speedy action taken upon the perpetrators.

"It is indeed too cruel and insane to have acted in such a manner and the culprits should be booked with severity under the appropriate section of the Wildlife Protection Act," the Green SONS said in the release.
