KOHIMA : Former police chief, Rupin Sharma has been appointed as the new Director General of Police (DGP) through a wholesome decision by Nagaland government.
This development came after T John Longkumer submitted his documents inbetween controversy about the extension of his service as the DGP for six more months.
Nonetheless, the Supreme Court had also intervened into the matter and passed an order to Nagaland administration to to submit a fresh list of officer's to the UPSC, in order to replace the DGP of Nagaland. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) was directed to put forward the decision on 30th of November 2022.
The Home Department on 6th of January, issued a notification laying off the news that Rupin Sharma, the incumbent Director General of Prisons, Home Guard, Civil Defence and and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is the new DGP of Nagaland.
He has been allotted the task in addition to his regular duties. He will enter and work as a DGP from 7th January 2023, until any further notifications.
It is worth noting that, Rupin Sharma was appointed as a DGP back in 2017 for a short period of time. However, he was replaced from the post right after 7 months of his tenure.
Meanwhile, a farewell parade has been programmed on 7th of January, Saturday for former DGP Longkumer. The event is going to take place in NAPTC Chumoukedima.
He resigned from his post on 2nd of January, Monday. He was allotted the designated position of DGP on 27th of June, 2018.
The apex court notably, had rejected the appeal of the UPSC to grant 60 days to conclude the process of appointing the new DGP. According to sources, the UPSC panel discussed and consulted with the the Nagaland state administration and stakeholders, who collaboratively prepared the list.
