Nagaland: World Bank Likely to Support Nagaland Health Project Under NHSSP

KOHIMA: After witnessing the successful implementation of the Nagaland health project (NHP), World Bank has expressed interest to support the new Nagaland health system strengthening project (NHSSP). On May 19, Nagaland health and family welfare minister P Paiwang Konyak along with a team met World Bank country director Auguste Tano Kouame.

Nagaland minister Konyak expressed gratitude to the World Bank and also urged to hold online meetings with other states and countries to be aware of good implementation of the Nagaland Health Project.

Kouame further indicated that the planned initiative may assist the state earn fiscal money, involve the private sector through PPPs, and provide job possibilities through pre-service training.

Minister Konyak took to Twitter and wrote, “Called upon the @WorldBankIndia

team India led by Shri. Auguste Tano Kouame to thanked them for supporting Nagaland esp in the health sector. NHP successfully implemented, Improvement in the health sector visible & appeals for continuous support.

Meanwhile, during the discussion, Kouame assured Minister Konyak that he would urge to the Indian government that the new project be supported. Kouame congratulated the NHP team on the successful completion of the previous project, adding that despite only recently taking over as national director, he was already aware of the positive outcomes achieved. He thanked the Naga administration and the state's health and family welfare department for their efforts.

Y Kikheto Sema, commissioner and secretary of the Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department, also commended the World Bank for sponsoring initiatives in Nagaland in the health and education sectors, as well as agriculture and allied activities in the recent past.

In 2022, a 12-member World Bank team was in Nagaland on a five-day visit to encourage scientific farming and address the effects of climate change, officials said on Monday.

The World Bank team, which arrived in Kohima met with Nagaland government officials, according to a senior state government official.

Moreover, the World Bank team met with the core committee and technical committee for the Enhancing Landscape and Ecosystem Management (ELEMENT) project's execution.
